Summer Program
Our summer associate program in Washington, DC is designed to provide future attorneys with a realistic glimpse of life in a law firm. In fact, this program has become the major source of full-time associates hired by the firm.
The program, coordinated by a committee of attorneys, offers summer associates the opportunity to be involved in a variety of substantive assignments for different clients and to work with attorneys in numerous areas of practice and in both of the firm's offices.
Each summer associate also is assigned a mentor to provide guidance and to ensure that the summer associate has both an enjoyable and productive summer.
We believe that new associates benefit most from hands-on experience rather than just diligence in the law library. Throughout the summer, training and leisure activities allow summer associates to meet many people throughout the firm as well as enjoy the diverse opportunities of the city.
We generally hire a small number of students who have completed their second year of law school and have demonstrated strong academic performance and a desire to practice in the firm’s fields of expertise. That being said, our firm does not have a cookie-cutter “ideal candidate” concept for recruiting to the summer associate program. Top grades from choice law schools are one indicator - but prior experience or other talents also are important in the hiring process. We seek well-rounded and intelligent future attorneys with proven dedication to the study of law and the legal process, who will take pride in providing excellent legal services to firm clients, and make a positive and meaningful contribution to the livelihood of the firm.
